View the video on the left to learn the rules for Paper Pool.

Afterwards, get the following

Materials:
Colored pencil
Graph paper


 

 

Microsoft Excel icon Open a new Excel document.

Paper Pool Tasks:

1. Create a table similar to the one on the right in Excel. Image of Excel spreadsheet for Paper Pool tables of length=3

On graph paper, use a colored pencil to create Paper Pool tables with the dimensions listed in your Excel table above. Remember, as shown in the video, the length is horizontal and the height is vertical.

3. Following the rules from the video, find the number of hits and the corner pocket for each of the Paper Pool tables on the right. Record your data into your Excel document.

On graph paper, use a colored pencil to graph the data as points. Label the horizontal axis (x-axis), Height. Label the vertical axis (y-axis), # of Hits. Title your graph, Paper Pool Tables Length = 3.

5. In cell A 13, write your prediction for the number of hits for a 3 x 10 Paper Pool Table. Explain your reasoning.
6. In cell A 15, write your prediction for the number of hits for a 3 x 12 Paper Pool Table. Explain your reasoning.
7. In cell A 17, describe an easy way to determine which corner pocket the ball will hit for any Paper Pool Table that has a length of 3. For instance, which corner pocket will the ball hit on a 3 x 100 table? Or, a 3 x 107 table? Explain your reasoning.
